Greetings from the land beyond the Duir!
First and foremost, happy new year! We are grateful for so many things here, at the turning point between 2008 and 2009! Good health, harmony with family and friends, the hope that's penetrating our nation and the world with a new leader coming to the helm, and you--our beloved community.
I"m sure you've noticed all the changes in the world recently. While some things are on the decline--other things are on the rise. Like creativity and consciousness! Like magical thinking and hopeful expectations! Like dreaming and storytelling and imagining. All one needs to do is spend 30 minutes on google to notice the huge surge of myth and enchantment sweeping through the world. Over the past few years, the gargantuan success of magical books such as Harry Potter and mythic films like Lord of the Rings, as well as the resurgence of interest in The Mythic Journey through music, television and interactive media points to a reawakening of enchantment and a new consciousness that makes room not only for flights of fancy, but for everyday myth-making. Finally, at least to some degree, magic gets a seat next to science.
Some of you may already be aware that The Endicott Studio's online magazine "Journal of Mythic Arts" (JoMA) has ceased production. They began their endevor to share mythic art with the world in the late 1990's, as did Duirwaigh. Today, however, there is such a wealth information, art and programs available at the touch of a finger, our presence online has become merely a shadow cast by a larger light. Like with JoMA, it is time for us to reinvent or retire.
We've chosen reinvention.
To that end, we dedicated the majority of 2008 to a new vision--one that takes our focus out of the Celtic forest and into the far corners of both inner and outer worlds. The Duirwaigh--which has stood for the giant oak threshold to magic, found in the mythic Celtic wood, has swollen, expanded, exploded. Tiny pieces of the duir are found all over the world, in stories from every country, in traditions of cultures both alive, dreamed and remembered. And to these we want to tip our hat as we travel by on a magic carpet ride collecting proof and souvenirs of Wonder's existence.
But the duir we now turn our attention to is the primary Duir. The main Duir. And that Duir, my dear friends, resides in one place alone. It is on the human heart and is the gateway to the soul, the place where Impossible Things Happen Every Day. And to honor that Duir, we at Duirwaigh now turn our full attention to the art of openness. Through sharing our creativity, inspirations and imagination with you, we intend Duirwaigh to be a portal, one you can enter to stir your own creative fires.
We are leaving the Celtic forest and its faeries, imps and goblins to those who do it best (though--believe me--plenty of faeries and mermaids have already packed their bags, thoroughly intent on following us to new ground!) and are now turning our attention to what we do best: inspiration!
A whole new website will appear in spring of 2009 and with it, a new focus: music, films, books and art created by the Duirwaigh founders Angi and Silas. We can't divulge all the secrets right now, but if you love the spirit of our films and online projects, our new threshold should intrigue and delight.
Hang onto your hats. It's going to be a magic carpet ride through the realms of imagination. A new portal opens spring 2009 and with it, worlds within worlds of wonders. (Click the icon to the right to enjoy Silas's new original composition and see the film "The Magic Carpet Ride.")

Have you seen our latest project? On a recent trip through the world of imagination, I stumbled across an old, forgotten graveyard. The sculptures, stones, moss, trees and leaves were alive, whispering the wisdom of ages. I hope the haunting beauty of their message shines through this film. We're working on a coffee table book of the guardians who allowed me to photograph them and the magic places they call home.
